Sears Tower
Figure 1.0 Sears Tower from the groundAlthough the original occupants no longer occupy the building in which it was named, The Sears Tower is an icon of Chicago. It probably also helps that it can be seen from pretty much anywhere in Chicago. The Sears Tower is currently the tallest building in the LOFCF's and depending on your definition of tall the tallest in the world. So what does it feel like to stand on the shoulder of a gaint? Pay around LOFCF$12 like I did and you can find out for yourselves(either or you could just look at the photo's below or watch "Ferris Bueller's Day off". The observation deck at the Sears Tower in called the "Sky Deck" and located on the 103 story of the tower. Before one can partake the views across the bay one must run the gauntlet of the get your Photo taken in the hope that later you will purchase it on your way out as well as a Multimedia presentation.
On the subject of getting your photo taken in the hope that you will purchase it later, I pity the people who have this as a day job. I'd be inclinded to think that there's not a really high retentsion rate of people actually picking up there photo on the way out. Maybe families or big groups (bucks/hens parties, government funded junkets etc) but that's probably about it.
There seemed to be a canary yellow and navy blue motif perminated the whole experience from the employee shirts, colour of walls and cealings, advertising and the obseration deck itself. It was just something that stood out.
I don't know what the elevator was on but it was fast 100 stories flew by in no time. So much so that my ears actually popped and given by the giggles and looks of surpise around the same time the others around me.
As far as good days for viewing I didn't pick a good one visablity wasn't great. Views from great highs don't really do much for me I mean I wasn't blown away it was like cool I'm up really high, cars look the size of ants and the building seems to be swaying. Maybe if it wasn't so cloudy I would have been more impressed at the height above ground that I found myself.
I set a new personal record making a payphone call 109 stories above ground that was probably the highlight.
